Notes and such The following is "partial" only in regards our understanding of time.
I understand that your understanding of many of these aspects is superior to my own.
The following will be quickly rejected by many as simply being ludicrous, stupid or confusing by many and subsequently deemed to be irrelevant - with few exceptions (Light years and Eras) this has been compiled from PHP date.
I watched a Magistrate yesterday become terse and stroppy when he with the use of a computerised Calendar admitted that he was confused and simply took whatever time he required to get it right - this "luxury" is simply not permitted in many court instances and when an individual is not able to give an immediate, definitive and accurate response in regards matters of time they are deemed to be ... confused, lying, guilty .....
The option to question a person on any aspect in relation to time is simply seen as a means of getting to the truth of a matter - this is pertinent to a 10 year old being questioned in regards time matters when she was both 8 years of age and at that time when she was 8 she was also being sexually assaulted at the same time. Simply in order for her to "attempt" to answer must and does cause her to return to that moment in her memory in order to asses if she has a recollection of matters pertaining to time - eg the day, the date, the time of year as defined by the seasons (not covered below) - this also without any cognitive input from her brings to the current moment in time those things associated with the experience she is being questioned about. If she (and she must simply due to the way our memory works) becomes confused or recalls (as she must) or re-experiences (as she must) those things associated with her own time memory of the event she is deemed to not have an accurate recollection of the event and therefore her evidence of the entire experience is cast into doubt and her case must therefore collapse.
There is no criteria in our legal or evidential aspects of it which take into consideration the phases or stages of development of a human being in their ability to recall events from the past (time based events), there is no consideration that a traumatic experience such as being sexually abused does cause fracturing of many aspects of the human psyche - time being the first factor to go - this is a result of the triggering of the basic human response found in the fight or flight mechanism - time simply is not a requirement in this mode - survival is and survival is the singular focus of a human at that time. It is not until later (after we survive the experience) that we begin to associate attributes of both time and our surrounds in regards the event. Early stages of this cover such aspects as the time of day in regards day or night (not covered in the following other than as a means of indicating to others who must elaborate on the concept when they see a time referred to as being for example 8.30pm (this is relevant only in specific time zones as for example 8.30pm in the UK in summer time is still daylight - for us we consider it a matter of logic that someone would know that at the current time of the year it is dark for us here - not so for those in more southern latitudes) - far more complex aspects are required for an individual to be able to answer a question in regards the specific date of a traumatic event such as being sexually abused - the victim is expected to have a perfect recollection of time and of its associations with other aspects or incidents in relation to their abuse - what colour hair did he have? The inability to be able to respond clearly is seen as evidence of her "making it up" when in fact the evidence shows that she is clearly confused in regards matters of time in association with her abuse - to be expected as it is a result of the human nature of which we are all endowed.
The following aims to define the development stages in the understanding and the use of time from the birth of a human being.
1. Grade/age at which a person should be familiar with the concept
2. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the everyday use.
3. Grade/age at which a person should be fluent with the use.
4. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the use of and the intermixing of thos aspect of time with other components and aspects of time.
5. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the use of this aspect of date/time and its application to onself eg This happened to me on ..... at ....
6. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the use of AD and BC
7. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the use of Eras and Epochs
8. Grade/age at which a person should be competent with the use of Light years
9. Grade/age at which an individual is capable of mentally calculating the difference between 2 of this criteria.
10. Grade/age at which an individual is capabale of calculating the difference between 2 of this criteria using tools such as pen and paper, calculator, Calendar, Diary ...
11. Grade/age at which a person is able to mix and calculate the different aspects of time.
Please indicate using school year and age markers eg Year/Grade 7 - 11 years of age.
