Description: this time on no response from my contact, issues with redress report and a few missing things and the human rights of survivors
Article originally prepared on : 20 October 2015
My concerns have been passed on.
One of the points I made was that I am aware of my own needs and the needs of others and that goes beyond access to a psychologist for 1 or 2 hours a week on an appointment basis. It was recommended that I could use publicly available help lines. My response was that this is an extremely high risk situation for survivors like myself, I mentioned that as a demographic it appears we have not been acknowledged and I was hopeful of conveying that as well as getting something real in the way of acknowledgement from the Commission. I informed them that the risk of accessing support via this method is an extremely high risk circumstance.
As an atheist survivor of childhood sexual abuse by multiple Catholic clergy my support is determined by the chance that I encounter someone who has not been indoctrinated by the the religious systems of my abusers - their worldview determines the veracity of my treatment which of course is unacceptable. This by the way is the major driver in the exceptionally high suicide risk of those of us attempting to deal with the Royal Commission.
I also spoke to them of the Human Rights of survivors to have access to the same published evidence and information as others; this is in regard the right to have access to the livestream as and when a survivor wishes to. I explained a part of the issue that goes to so many of us missing in many areas in our education. As I understand it a large number of us can be said to be auditory learners as we are not skilled in reading and processing at the same time, the PDF format also poses many issues with the transcript service and raises a barrier for many survivors to obtain sought after information. I explained that there are those of us who require friends or contacts to read from the transcripts for them when they are well capable of watching and listening to the livestream, they simply need the ability to pause, rewind, playback at a time and place that is suitable to them. Others need assistance and or time to prepare themselves however this should not be used to deny them access if they so wish.
I have previously informed the Commission that I will publish for the next 150 years all their publicly available data in a user and search engine friendly manner; I suggested that there is suitable software freely available from the people at CERN (the software comes from the Large Hadron Collider and is of the highest possible standard).
Initially I was informed that there were too many files for me to manage. When I informed them that this was not an issue as larger volumes of data are handled every day. Then it was that they were too big - not an issue either as these are things that the Internet does with ease.
