The 35-year-old victim, who the prosecution alleges was 10 and 11 at the timeof the offences, broke down repeatedly while giving evidence via closed circuittelevision yesterday.
At one stage, he shook his head as he sobbed, saying to a court officer: "Ican't do this".
After regaining his composure, he told the jury how Mr Down had held him backafter class on three occasions for being disruptive, bullying another studentand to discuss a test.
"I stayed behind and that's when he put his left hand towards my groin," theman said, referring to the first incident.
On another occasion, he spoke of Mr Down abusing him while wearing a cross onhis collar.
The man said Mr Down, a religion teacher, had pulled his shorts down andtouched him inappropriately. He had been forced to perform oral sex and had beensexually penetrated by Mr Down.
Prosecutor Brent Meertens said the 35-year-old had been scared, ashamed andthought no-one would believe him. "When the complainant asked (Mr Down) why (hewas being abused), he said he had been a bad boy and this was his punishment."
