Sir, 

Following a recent meeting with the psychologist designated by The Commission into sexual Abuse it was found that many questions posed were not in her realm to answer. Subsequently the following questions have been put forward as a means of seeking clarity and understanding for those victims of clergy abuse who may attempt to obtain closure, justice or compensation via the commission.

 

Whilst there are many questions victims would like a later opportunity to ask, it was felt that the following questions should be put forward as an initial means of bringing some understanding and as a way for the opening up of a dialogue in this difficult circumstance.  The following questions have also been submitted via http://www.catholic.org.au/questionbox/

1. Are you aware of the  U. S. Bishops' Charter For Protection Of Children And Young People?
   
2. Of the 17 articles contained in the U. S. Bishops' Charter For Protection Of Children And Young People can you define which aspects of each article are available via the Melbourne diocese's current process of dealing with clergy abuse?
   
3. Can you provide reason why many aspects of each article set out in this charter are not available via the Melbourne diocese's current process of dealing with clergy abuse?
