Here is a group of these badly injured people and they know and you know, I know, we all know that they will not get assistance from either the government or the church. All these articles are is an advertisement of just how horrible and damaging the church and the government/legal processes are - they are a deterrent and the church and government both must love this style of story along with the victim horror stories which tell of nothing but the failure and the harm that will and does come to those who follow their advice through coming forward and attempting to speak out on the issue. Most of these articles could be called an advertisement of the horror that will befall those who do attempt to speak out or seek to heal themselves and to connect and work with other survivors on their collective healing.
The constant focus of those who are horrified at the church shortcomings does hijack any form of constructive action independent of the church or government systems and are a constant reminder to victims/survivors of the trap that awaits those who actually follow their advice - hence the call for a public appeal to support these people abandoned by both church and government - when I see that I know I will have begun to see progress and to no longer see the eternal argument of where or why the church continues to fail - the arguement produces ink and impressions and is great for business and turns survivors off from reporting - thats why the Melbourne Diocese can have approximately 23,000 survivors yet to declare that they have been sexually abused as a child by a Catholic priest. Check me up on this. The Melbourne archdiocese says 1,000,000 Catholics (ref below) A guestimate is that between 1 and 2,000 people have been through either court or church processes. Go to Estimating-the-numbers and enter ' 1000000 ' into the population field, type ' Melbourne ' into the Diocese field, enter 1000 (try 2000 in the number healed field and click the calculate bar. These are real numbers based on fully attributed research - see the refenence in the page. The calculation is explained and the result give you a genuine picture for any location in the world if you have those 2 basic numbers. It is not necessary to enter a number of 'healed' to calculate an estimate of the number of victims/survivors that would be expected to be found in any given region.
How do we convey the need to get a public appeal going to the press and the people as the empathy is there for the victims and is something I feel the great majority of the people would support if we can get the message across. That's my thoughts for the day. Do you think a public appeal for direct support for survivors is urgently needed?
