You might not remember this, but it's been almost a year since the apology to the forgotten Australians. A year since the federal government finally acknowledged to half amillion of us - the forgotten generation and the child migrants - thatthe system had failed every one of us.
That apology, delivered with such solemn ceremony andapparent sincerity, was worth nothing. We waited a lifetime for it, andit came about by the work of brave and sensitive men and women whoworked away at the machine. We were grateful to the then prime minister, Kevin Rudd, for being the one to say sorry, but it may as well havebeen written on toilet paper.
A FORMER altar boy at the centre of a sex abuse claim issuing the Catholic Church for more than $1 million in new documentsfiled in the Supreme Court.
A statement of claim lodged by Cairns legal firm Dean and Bolton details the man's case for compensation after sufferingyears of alleged abuse by a Far Northern priest.
In the claim, a Cairns man, now 38, says the alleged acts of abuse byFather Joseph Sultana from February 1979 to November 1981 at Atherton’sSt Joseph’s Church led to a life of sadness, a sense of loss and grief, social isolation and severe psychiatric symptoms.
We quickly learned there was a cruel face to the Catholic Church -- one I had neither seen nor even suspected; one that cared nothing about the sexual assault and immense suffering of our 14-year-old Emma, orany other victim.
Our story is not rare, it is just rarely told -- we know of many more suffering victims and families.
The hierarchy's reaction to the rape of our children caused us to fight for a proper response, a just response, a Christian response. It was, unfortunately, nowhere to be found. more
In light of the constant and repeated failures of the Catholic hierarchy in its response to the sexual abuse of children the responsibility now falls onto everyday genuine Catholics who should withdraw from every social, community, judicial, policing, publishing, political, health or child service firstly as an act of safety and rightfully then in protest in support of society, its children and its people until they and the church can show that they can fulfill a genuine child safe, nurturing, socially responsible honoring all people as equal.
The scale of the abuses and the failures of the church and its hierarchy simply demand nothing less.
Be proud that you are opposing the most evil empire the planet has seen - their fraudulent and bogus system is in freefall - I am proud of each person who has stood in opposition to them.A broken social system is not a suitable environment in which to raise children
A healthy and well adjusted child requires a healthy and well adjusted environment in which to grow
There are no better educated minds in regards the prevention and survivalofsexual abuse than those who have both prevented and survived. The Pope wants the truth. The truth is that there is no god.The truth is that the Catholic church is a scam. The truth is that the Catholic church has become and is a criminal organization. So now that the world knows and understands that religion has been a fraud incapable of acting as it preaches and very capable of committingatrocities and abuses on the most vulnerable and our children and thenprotecting itself and its wealth are we expected to honor and respectthem and their followers simply because of their belief in a fraud.
What a horrible shame these religions have brought to society. Thesereligions have spent years telling us about justice and rights and loand behold they are shown to be the greatest abusers of these things.
They should have the decency to remove themselves from any area of lifedealing with social services and children until they show they haveworth and value to bring to society.
It is the Church’s recent tortuous negotiation of sex scandals in several countries and what some claim is the Pope’s refusal to confront the problem that have raised the most anger.
“There is a rigid defence position, arguing that every reported case is attacking the clerical institution, but it actually does not, unless that clerical institution defends pederasty,” said “Iglesia Sin Abusos” co-founder Carlos Sanchez Mato.
