Archbishop Wilson warns Adelaide priests on personal safety


Adelaide Archbishop Philip Wilson has warned priests to pay attentionto their personal security following a recent incident in which armedmen broke into a presbytery.

The Southern Cross reports that the incident has prompted recommendations for duress alarms and a clear emergency plan.

Archdiocesanclergy care co-ordinator Anthea Boden wants a crisis management chartdeveloped and placed prominently in presbyteries. She said alertbuttons should also be installed.

She said some priests are "alone and isolated".

Twomonths ago, two armed men broke into the Virginia Parish presbytery.They bound the 72 year old parish priest Fr Michael Doherty. Theydisabled his phone line, before stealing his car and fleeing with achalice.
