Archdiocese Settles With 16 Men for $1.3 Million

A lawyer who represented more than a dozen men who claim they wereabused by priests in the Archdiocese off Washington says his clientshave suffered a great deal for decades.

Peter Gillon says sixteen of his clients haveagreed to settle with church officials for a total of $1.3 million.Gillon says the money represents 16 individual settlements stemmingfrom allegations of abuse that allegedly occurred between 24 and 44years ago.

A spokeswoman for the archdiocese says the moneywill come from insurance reserves and not from other Church assets, Anactivist with the organization Survivors Network of those Abused byPriests, or SNAP says he believes there are probably dozens or perhapshundreds of other victims of clergy abuse still living in theArchdiocese of Washington which includes the District of Columbia andfive southern Maryland counties.
