He is on trial in the Perth District Court for six counts of indecent dealings and one count of carnal knowledge.
The 35-year-old victim, who the prosecution alleges was 10 and 11 at the time of the offences, broke down repeatedly while giving evidence via closed circuit television yesterday.
At one stage, he shook his head as he sobbed, saying to a court officer: "I can't do this".
After regaining his composure, he told the jury how Mr Down had held him back after class on three occasions for being disruptive, bullying another student and to discuss a test.
"I stayed behind and that's when he put his left hand towards my groin," the man said, referring to the first incident.
On another occasion, he spoke of Mr Down abusing him while wearing a cross on his collar.
The man said Mr Down, a religion teacher, had pulled his shorts down and touched him inappropriately. He had been forced to perform oral sex and had been sexually penetrated by Mr Down.
Prosecutor Brent Meertens said the 35-year-old had been scared, ashamed and thought no-one would believe him. "When the complainant asked (Mr Down) why (he was being abused), he said he had been a bad boy and this was his punishment."
