A former Victorian priest has been jailed for the indecent assault of two boys in the 1990s.
Paul David Ryan, 57, pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court in Warrnambool, in south-west Victoria, to five charges of indecent assault.
The court has heard that while serving as a parish priest in a small western Victorian town, Ryan coaxed the two altar boys, aged 15 and 16 at the time, into his home, where he undressed them and then sexually abused them.
The court was told Ryan was lonely at the time.
In sentencing, Magistrate Michael Stone said Ryan had grossly abused the trust of the boys, using his position to groom them for his sexual pleasure.
While taking into account the remorse Ryan showed on his arrest, Magistrate Stone sentenced him to 18 months' jail, with a non-parole period of 12 months.
