TheSurvivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, said on Mondayit faxed and mailed a letter to Archbishop John Favalora asking him torelease the names of all proven, admitted or "credibly accused" clergywithin the archdiocese. It was one of several requests it has made, thegroup said. They also asked thearchdiocese to reveal the status of those priests, to publish theinformation and to visit all the parishes where the priests served.SNAPplans to make a similar request of the Diocese of Palm Beach. Thegroup connected its latest requests to the case of former U.S. Rep.Mark Foley, the Republican who resigned from Congress after thediscovery of his sexually explicit Internet exchanges with young malepages. Foley said that when he was 13 he was molested by theRev. Anthony Mercieca, who between 1965 and 2002 served in parishesfrom Homestead to North Palm Beach. Mercieca admitted he fondled Foley. The Archdiocese of Miami said it has not released a list ofpriests, but has notified parishes where priests accused of sexualabuse have served and encouraged victims to come forward. PalmBeach diocese spokeswoman Alexis Walkenstein said the names of PalmBeach diocese priests accused of sexual abuse have become publicthrough media reports.
