FORT WORTH -Members of a clergy abuse survival group are calling on the TarrantCounty prosecutors to investigate allegations of sexual abuse bypriests.
The Survivors Network of those Abused byPriests, or SNAP, delivered a letter to Tarrant County DistrictAttorney Tim Curry on Monday. The group made the request following lastweek's release of unsealed Fort Worth Catholic Diocese recordsdetailing abuse allegations.
Outside pressure is the onlyrecourse to assuring that clergy are prosecuted for their crimes, saidKristopher Galland, founder of the Grapevine chapter of SNAP during anews conference in front of the old courthouse. He wants church leaderswho assisted abusive priests arrested for aiding and abetting.
David Montague, spokesman for Mr. Curry's office, said prosecutors aredownloading documents to determine if any cases fall within the statuteof limitations.
The prosecutor's office, he said, is notshy about prosecuting members of the clergy, Mr. Montague said. Thestatute of limitations for sexual assault of a child is 10 years afterthe victim has turned 18.
