A brief content review of the http://www.childabuseroyalcommission.gov.au/ web site
Description:
Friday, 27 March 2015
Recently the Chair of the Commission encouraged those at the hearing and those fortunate few Australians who were able to access the livestream at that moment to visit the homepage where a link to your online form will be found.
After visiting the homepage and after checking the many options available in the menu and after scrolling down 7 screens deep into the page I unfortunately failed to pick up the fact that form was linked via your Twitter feed which offered a bit.ly encrypted link to the form -
bit.ly/1CWnbla Now as a plan to fail this appears to be an exceptional piece of work and is a vivid display of the ignorance spoken of by Commissioner Murray when he dismissed the digital revolution and the capture and processing of data that that brought with it in January of 2015.
After failing to find the encrypted link I rang the Commission and a very helpful young lady knew immediately what the problem was (It was great to experience her immediate acknowledgment of this well hidden secret link and instructed me on how to locate the encrypted link in the Twitter feed at the bottom of the page. This was great service by theRoyal Commission and much appreciated, the young lady assisted me tomake sure I found the page.
Our conversation went on to where I asked if the form provided a receipt copy of what a person had submitted. The FAQ (obviously kept offline so you need to ring for assistance) did not cover this aspect so I advised her that I had asked a question about its functionality some time previously so the Royal Commission would have been aware that this was a possibility when it came to implementing technology. I understand that the type of interaction did not become popular until in the mid 2000s so that gave the people in charge at the Royal Commission at least 10 years of the digital and social media revolution sufficient time to work out that the tools that were available in the 1990s to build these forms included check boxes which made it possible for a visitor to request a copy as some government departments have been known to not consider the way individuals use the Internet when responding via a form despite this knowledge being freely available for many years online.
The way this works is that the visitor is offered an opportunity to have a copy sent to their email address entered above or to a different email address so that they can manage their own confidentiality aspects themselves. It is not a difficult concept to grasp if you understandthat the digital revolution includes the bits and bytes of an Internetpage and that usage and implementation must take into account the userand their experience.
An analysis of the link and the online form results in the following professional opinion: "An excellent example of how to fail while attempting to appear to be helpful has been achieved with this stunning implementation of technology from the Internet's concrete operational stage in regards basic forms that were in common usage 20 or so years ago.
If the Royal Commission is unable to implement these sought after features I will gladly write the appropriate HTML for the public side as well as providing them with a suitable script in the server side language that is currently in use at no charge to the Royal Commission in the hope that at some point in its development there will be consideration of the survivors/victims as stakeholders in the current work being undertaken by the Royal Commission and their style of usage is given consideration under the banner of "dignity and respect".
If the Royal Commission is unable to comprehend the above then please contact the author who will gladly provide instructions for the Commission and staff on the use and the implementation of online forms in a professional manner so that the plan to fail in this regard can be put to death and at the same time being able to achieve a moderate step in the area of inclusion and consideration of those the Commission is said to be working to support.
There are no obvious technical reasons for this oversight so therefore it must be considered that the failure is a human failure and cause one to wonder just how far and how stupid things have to get before users are considered and action is taken or a highly sophisticated buzzword filled response is obtained as an attempt to deny inclusion and consideration at this most basic level of interaction between the Commission and those it purports to be engaging with and representing.Given consideration to the admission by Commissioner Murray that atleast he is ignorant in this regard it may serve the Commission well tonot let the general public know that this ignorance within theCommission at this level is so widespread. There is always thepossibility that this may have come about as a result of trauma experienced as an early child - more information that is relevant tothis in regards the work of the Commission can be found on the Internet ("online" or "on the web". "on the net" .... for those born in the last20 years or who have picked up some skills of this ubiquitous technology since then) at
After scrolling down 7 screens now you get to play "Find the Form"
