Religion as Trauma shows that both events (Insertion of the mythical spy in the mind god and the death bringing Devil or Satan can only terrify a child.) are emotionally wrenching and distressing experiences and is a disastrous event outside the range of usual human experiences.
Both events cause severe psychological shock and severe distress in the child who has no alternative other than to attempt to absorb the fracturing that they experience and to comply if they hope to survive in their current environment or to hope to remain as a part of their family no matter how fractured their home and family experience.
