Some pointers on posting a News Snippet

 

When you have found an article which you feel would be of interest to others simply login and post a link and info in our "Latest in the News" category.

 

Here is how I do it - with some explanations. 

 

I use FireFox web browser to this work so I will describe for that browser. 

 

In a Tab open the Admin pages 

 

Enter your Username and Password  - these are case sensitive - type exactly as provided.

 

You are presented with a listing of articles.  Got the "New" menu on the Administration. Select "Article" .

 

The Admin system will present you with a new page ready to create an article. 

 

If you are writing an article you can begin to add your information. You can save as a Temp( Temp Live)  article until you are ready to publish it live. 

To post a news snippet

 Select Live from the save options

 Select  Latest in the News from the category list.

 Past the title into the Title field (You can copy from the article if it is from another web page)

 Paste the title into the main content area. This will often bring the style from the site - we do not always want this.

or you can choose  HEADLINE 1 from the Format selector

   Return to the article and copy the web address "index.php?id=160"

 

  Return to the admin and select the headline - click a dialogue box will popup - paste the web address into the Weblink field - click OK

 

 Return to the article and select & copy the first two or three paragraphs (avoid copying the entire article as most are covered by copyright)

 Return to the admin and paste below the headline.

 

You can add a rating  by typing or copying the 5 Star Quicktag  from above and pasting directly into the page - this will cause the system to display 5 stars in that location.

 

Add the 'more' Quicktag  at the bottom of the page - this adds a standard line which reads "This page shows an introduction only to this story, click the link above to read more ...."

 

You may like to add a comment in regards the article after the Quicktag - readers appreciate a review. You can add any other information such as Posted by: Your name, your email address or you can add your image. To add an image of yourself simply click and upload an image into the Authors directory. Once upload you can select from here when ever you publish. Authors images should not be more than 140 pixels high.

 

Click Save 

On save the page is uploaded to the server and a copy is returned - wait for the page to reload as you will need to add spaces between some words - these are Carriage returns that the copy and paste method does not carry across correctly - add spaces where needed. FireFox underlines spelling mistakes so these are easily identified. Save again and the corrected article will be available to the world.

 

It takes approximately 1.5 minutes to publish a single News snippet - the more we have the better we rate in search engines and the better exposure we have.
