Church issues apology in clergy sex case

A Wilmington church has issued a public apology as part of the settlement with a man who was abused by a priest.

Bob Krebs with the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington says St. Ann's Church and the Diocese are sorry for the late Father Edward Carley's conduct .AudioHere

Also part of the settlement, St. Ann's agrees to pay plaintiff John Dougherty 200 thousand dollars.

That amount could go up if a judge decides during the Diocese's bankruptcy case that Dougherty was under- compensated.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Far too small an amount for a lifetime and then more as so many have yet to receive acknowledgment  or compensation. Many are in debt or destitute after a lifetime of horror and they receive no support or assistance from any Catholic charity as one would expect. In many countries all inquiries relating to clergy abuse are funnelled back through the bishop where victim are reprocessed through failed systems where they are humiliated and in many instances re-abused.
