Unfortunately, there is nothing new about yet another sex scandal involving Catholic clergy and hierarchy. The German hotline of the Catholic Church was overwhelmed by more than13,000 callers attempting to complain.
What is most disturbing to loyal Catholics is the focus of the hierarchy on maintaining the statusquo and protecting the reputation of the ecclesiastical establishment.There has been no meaningful attempt to take care of the victims.
It is becoming more and more obvious that the scandalous problems are endemic and systemic. What the Catholic Church needs is a drastic overhaul.
A good start would be open, transparent dedication to truth.
Talk of "anti-Catholic conspiracy" and "rallying to protect the Pope" are no help.
The Pope should apologize and resign to make room for a modern saviour.
