Peter,
I learned today of Dan Box's piece. I don't know much about the
circumstances however I do want to say that I do understand that some
victims can get things out of kilter (says he to himself also) and I
hope it works out for you - you have my support and if there is anything
that you feel I may be able to assist with let me know.
Some of what I do know about is Dan Box and the Australian and I get to
wonder why he bypassed so many story opportunities of other real stories
- if needed let me know and I will review my conversations with him - I
have to declare a potential conflict of interest as I missed shutting
him up along with Fife-Yeomans over the opening of the Towards healing
hearings at the RC so I have incentive and some material that may be of
value.
Just to let you know a little of what has changed in my life as a result
of the work you and others have done. November/December I resolved my
registration issue with the RC and was given some initial interviews -
this was prepared into an internal submission (think that is what it was
called). I kicked up a good rapport with the lady from the RC who
informed me that I would be likely to do a private hearing some time in
the new year.
On day 2 of them coming back I received a phone call and asked if I was
OK to do my private hearing that day at 1. I had a 3 or so hour
interview which went pretty well. Since then I have been contacted by
taskforce SANO about completing a statement (I originally spoke to them
on their first official day and have been on hold since then). I went to
Brisbane this morning and made my statement re my childhood abuse and
relayed information about a number of more recent events to him.
I am 65 years old just recently and since I was raped as an 8 year old I
have sought to get a conversation with people in authority since then
and in a matter of a week or so I have been provided with that
opportunity. I want to say thank you for your courage in speaking out
and thank you for helping me make that goal of mine - I don't have the
words yet to describe that and to comprehend that at the moment - more
importantly I want to say again let me know if there is anything I can
do to assist.
