Officials to probe children killings

From correspondents in Lucknow

January 06, 2007 07:48pm

NATIONAL authorities have been called in to investigate the suspected rape and murder of 17 people, mostly children, at a house near the capital New Delhi, officials said today.
The killings came to light last week after skulls and bones were dug up in the backyard of a house in Noida, Uttar Pradesh state.

The owner of the house, an industrialist, along with his servant have been arrested.

Six policemen have been sacked for failing to act on complaints of parents whose children had gone missing over the last two years.

"The state has decided to hand over the investigations to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) for an impartial and thorough probe," Bua Singh, Uttar Pradesh state police chief, said.
