It would seem to be a psychiatric disorder when the psychiatrists themselves do not notice that they are dealing with healthy people.

How then would they know when a patient is well and healthy again?

Does this mean that our psychiatrists and JPs are confused?

Is it any wonder our children are confused?

JUSTICESof the Peace have ordered psychiatric assessments on more than 2500Queenslanders in the past three years but less than half were justified.

People forced to undergo a psychiatric assessment are also routinelyrefused all information about their case, including the name of the JP,the complainant, or what prompted the action.

Only magistratesand JPs are allowed to issue justices examination orders (JEOs), whichallow police to enter a person's home and take them away forpsychiatric assessment against their will.

More than 95 per cent of the orders are issued by JPs, who need no medical qualifications.

However they must hold a reasonable belief that "the person has a mental illness".

DavidSolomon, who reviewed Freedom of Information laws for the BlighGovernment, said he was surprised at the high JEO error rate, addingthat the role of JPs should be reconsidered.

Queensland JusticesAssociation (QJA) president Bob Pilkington said he was aware of thestatistics and supported a review, but JPs' safety had to be taken intoaccount when providing information to JEO subjects.

Dr Solomon'sreview also criticised the lack of informaton available to peoplesubject to an order, saying it was unfair for someone deprived of theirliberty not to be told what was alleged about them.
