Abuse survivor to meet archbishop

A LOUGHANURE survivor of sexual abuse will lead a group meeting inDublin today (Friday) with Archbishop Diarmuid Martin where they willcall for the resignations of Archbishop Martin and that of Cardinal Sean Brady.

John Deegan (51), from Cruckakeehan, a founding member ofthe Anti Catholic Church Activists Worldwide (ACCAW) and five othergroup members will meet with Archbishop Martin and Fr Damien O' Reilly,the administrator of the Pro Cathedral to discuss various issues ofconcern within the catholic church.

"I was sexually abused by myuncle and physically abused by a priest when I tried to report what washappening to me at the age of 11," Mr Deegan told the Donegal News.
"Fr Eugene Greene used to come into our house - he never abused me - but he came to our school and took away young children. It was horrificbecause in our own way we knew what was happening but were powerless todo anything about it," he added.

The meeting has come aboutfollowing constant pressure from the group which included weeklyprotests at the Pro Cathedral in Dublin, silent protests inside theCathedral and two disruptions of Mass disruptions by the group, whichincluded Mr Deegan chaining himself to the altar.

The group membersinclude John Deegan, Cliona Garvin, Mary Lawlor, Breda Meehan, Dave OBrien and Paul Redmond. At the meeting the group has a number of issuesto discuss and will call for the immediate resignation of Cardinal SeanBrady due to his handling of the Fr Brendan Smyth case.
