McClellan Why?

I was struck by the statement of Justice McClellan yesterday when he said that the Royal Commission would be looking in to why children were abused in these settings.
For me that has been the most compelling and the most striking statement to have come from the Royal Commission. For me it was the first moment that flagged the possibility of getting to the truth of the sexual abuse of children issue.
I want to release the hold on my breath that I have held since early childhood in this regard. I reflected on to my statement many years ago when first setting up my original web site; I don't recall the exact words but they were to the effect that each day I would do something to help bring that understanding about in the community. Today was the first day of my life since then that I felt that I could breathe in properly through the simple act of taking a breath and relaxing for a moment safe in the knowledge that someone in a position of power and authority has the desire to understand his and our environment.
Somewhere, somehow this has posed itself as potentially the most defining moment of my life. I hope it becomes as important to others.
I am scheduled to record my account to the Royal Commission some time in the new year. That will be for me the beginning of closure on the times of my childhood that were so destructive to my self and to so many others.
The word trust rolls through my head as well as the words of Justice McClellan who is now for me a man who is earning my respect in the way I have learned how we come to respect children and others we engage in life with. It becomes a big day in your life when I get to publicly state that I have a growing respect for someone in a position of authority.
If he continues on this course and comes to an evidenced based conclusion then I am confident that he will have become a person that I would be willing to trust with the unsupervised care of my child knowing that my child would not be in danger as a result of the fantasies and agendas engaged in by so many others which have left so many damaged and exploited.
